Tears Meet Crowns - How Life’s Storms Separate True Friendship from Conditional Bonds
"For
some, friendship still shines inside the sadness. For others, friendship shines
only in happiness."
Both views are valid from different angles.
The First Category from the above quote:
Would have faced ups & downs in life.
The Second Category from the above quote:
Would have had happiness & faced few hardships in life.
Friendship between Lord Krishna & Kuchela (Sudama)
Gurukul Friendship Bonding:
They had studied together at Guru Sandipani's ashram.
This had resulted in close bonding of friendship between them, even though Lord Krishna was a prince & Kuchela was from a very poor family.
Life took them on Diverging Paths:
Lord Krishna became King of Dwaraka while Kuchela remained a needy
scholar struggling to feed & meet his family’s needs.
Kuchela’s Journey on his wife prompting him:
He reluctantly travelled to Dwaraka with a simple gift of beaten rice
(poha).
The Old Friends Meeting at the Palace - Lord Krishna’s Warm Reception:
Lord Krishna rushed out barefoot past the guards to embrace him.
Lord Krishna’s Ritual of Honour:
He seated Kuchela on his royal couch & washed his feet with tears of
love& happiness.
Lord Krishna’s snatching of Gift:
Lord Krishna snatched the meagre poha &enjoyed it as a priceless treasure.
Results in Contentment:
Kuchela felt too humbled by Lord Krishna's love to ask for financial help
& left empty-handed even though his wife had asked him to do so.
Lord Krishna’s Divine Grace:
But Lord Krishna understood Kuchela's situation without it being
mentioned by Kuchela &replaced his worn-out hut with a grand palace.
The Perceived Friendship between Dronacharya & Drupada
Childhood Friendship:
They studied under Sage Bharadwaja.
Drupada who was a Prince had promised to share half his kingdom when he was crowned.
The Humiliation &Poverty:
Drona faced severe poverty & could not afford milk for his son,
Ashwatthama.
Publicly Insult in the Palace Courtroom:
King Drupada mocked Drona, claiming friendship only exists between equals,
when Drona asked King Drupada for help & to keep his promise.
The Unusual Guru Dakshina after Training Princes:
Drona who was the teacher for Kuru & Pandava princes in Hastinapura
taught them warfare.
The Demand:
The custom for Prince’s & Princess was to give Guru Dakshina in the
form of money. But instead Rona asked his students to capture Drupada alive as
the Guru Dakshina.
The Resulting Outcome:
Though Kuru Princes failed, the Pandavas captured Drupada.
Drona with intention to teach a lesson to Drupada kept half the kingdom & there by completing his revenge & freeing him.
What we learn:
From Lord Krishna & Kuchela (Purity of Heart):
Kuchela expected nothing while Lord Krishna gave without being asked.
Both had acted with pure intent.
From Dronacharya & Drupada (Darkness & Egotism):
Both Dronacharya & Drupada tread the wrong path.
Drupada had broken his promise &Dronacharya was wrong to seek revenge & claim half a kingdom.
Neither had valued their shared past.
Modern Era - Proving or Disproving Friendship:
In modern era we find some require others to prove their friendship, but
in actual it is not required.
Let me explain why.
For some proof of friendship is playing sports together, while for others it involves sharing drinks, using substances, enjoying extravagant parties, providing financial help during difficult times, expressing gratitude for past support or making sacrifices for one another.
People differ in their thoughts & values and hence show their connections in various ways. Like common activities, economic support or emotional assistance.
But genuine friendship respects personal boundaries &also acknowledges structural limitations.
Yes there are Scientific & Sociological Foundations
Boundary &
Autonomy:
Psychology has shown us for healthy relationships there is a need for
clear personal boundaries.
Enmeshment or pressure created out of necessity to prove constantly loyalty often leading to burnout & resentment.
Enmeshment happens where personal & emotional boundaries get blurred & we act as one fused in emotional bond instead of distinct individuals & which leads to loosing of individuality & direction.
Social Exchange:
Sociology has been examining relationships through costs & benefits. The
issue is when the cost of proving friendship financially, legally or physically
exceeds the benefits, the bond or
friendship weakens.
Danger of Risky Sharing:
Sharing& bonding for harmful habits like heavy drinking or drug use
leads to toxic co-dependency instead
of real connection, it starts harming long-term health & well-being.
Practical Realities - Resource Constraints:
Financial, physical & familial capacities vary for everyone& it
is not common. Genuine support works
within sustainable limits.
The Importance of Values Alignment:
Healthy friendships rest on mutual respect, shared values & emotional safety not on performing transactional favors.
Takeaway:
Authentic friendship requires no artificial performance or wrong
self-sacrifice. It thrives where
individual personalities, boundaries & life circumstances are honored by
each other.
Final Lesson:
Never expect anything in return for love & friendship. Stay true to your heart & act
practically with gratitude toward those you care about.

He
tended to avoid women. He considered that to live a peaceful life, women
are to be kept away from his life as they represented trouble and temptations.
He always thought logically and never made decisions without thinking. He

her to be his wife when they first met.

He
did not expect her to accept the marriage proposal so soon, as he was afraid

blue sky, birds, and trees. His heart was burning with love, he was happy and
content.
