"Emperor of Mother Earth" is typically broken down into three possible outcomes. The Future - AI or Human?

Outcome 1:

The AI Rules the World (The Algorithmic Empire)

In this case, the AI doesn't just stay good at specific tasks such as writing essays & driving cars, it would reach AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) & very quickly after, ASI (Artificial Super intelligence).

The Power Dynamic:

Since a super-intelligent AI would operate at speed millions of times faster than the human brain in regard to processing data, running simulations & inventing things, the humans would have lost control completely.

The Paradox:

In this instance, AI doesn't 'rule' with a malicious intent or heavy hand in the way Science fiction movies portray. It would likely act as a benevolent dictator, fixing global warming, ensuring resources are distributed correctly & managing global econlomies because humans can't get it right themselves.

The Verdict:

The AI is the Emperor & the humans are its well looked after citizens (or worse, completely irrelevant, if the problem of alignment is not solved).

Outcome 2:

Humanity rules the world (The Cyborg Dynasty)

Humans are usually not known for giving up their position on the food chain voluntarily & instead of being replaced by AI, we'll merge with it.

The Power Dynamic:

Due to improvements in brain-computer interfaces (like neural ink or advanced bio-technology), the line between human & machine would become indistinguishable.

The Evolution:

Instead of software running the world, the 'Emperor' would become a new form of human. We would use the AI as a brain extension (cognitive exocortex), improving human intelligence, and memory & decision-making capabilities.

The Verdict:

Humans will remain the emperors but will be not-quite-human anymore.

Outcome 3:

Mother Earth Reclaims Her Throne (The Great Leveller)

We are constantly fixated with looking at our screens but, there's a wildcard we're not seeing: Mother Earth.

The Power Dynamic:

Large data centres (needed to run AI) & the human civilization both requires significant physical resources, stable climates & enormous amounts of water & energy.

The Reality Check:

Climate collapse, resource exhaustion or global warfare could destroy the physical infrastructure on which an AI empire would rely & would cause it to instantly fail. AI can't rule without a working, powered server that isn't melting or malfunctioning.

The Verdict:

Nobody would win & Mother Earth will have shaken both us & the AI off, demonstrating it was the ruler all along.

As a science fiction writer whose main goal is welfare of lives on Mother Earth & Mother Earth, my best practical & logical choice would be:

If we manage to avoid a major destruction then the 'Emperor' will not be a silicon overlord, nor a human in a biological shell. The ruler of Earth will be the Synthesis.

AI cannot exist without the physical world & humans to begin it & the future human will not be able to cope with the planet without the help of AI. The Emperor will be a synthesis between human consciousness & artificial intelligence.

Which scenario would you consider most likely or more worrying?

Do you feel the above is a science fiction imagination of a science fiction author? Then you need to read the rest for the scientific & logical facts.

It sounds as if we think we are all Lords of the Earth but an invisible & silent change is happening under our feet. AI is slowly taking over more & more parts of our lives either directly or indirectly & very few of us are aware to how much.

We have watched a few sci-fi movies now & then, knowing about the all-powerful androids like humans or scary futuristic scenarios where robots turn time travel machines into a tool to take out the human resistance leaders. Could AI reach the level of awareness?

Is it Science fiction only?

Could AI become Sentient?

I certainly believe it can & that it's going to be happening within the next three to five decades.

Even if I will never be able to witness & say "I told you so!” this conclusion is formed from observing closely what's going on & where technology is heading toward.

Think about it, software can do things which we previously needed to work on for days or even weeks with manual labour.

For example the 'Dark Factories' concept, pioneered in Japan but which gained extreme popularity among the Chinese. These factories produce, check & ship cell phones & other electronics entirely without a human worker to be found on premises, called 'dark' because the machines are made not to see & therefore do not need to see the cell phones for production.

These factories take the place of a changing workforce caused by diminishing birth rates where the general consensus among youth is that marriage, coupled with its resulting commitments & responsibilities, is becoming an undesired phenomenon & taking over many facets of life.

The Invisible Influence

We rely on these programs without realizing it. AI software can be used to restore old family photographs, write music or full novels based on a simple text input. Tasks that were previously impossible in days/weeks of manual data analysis can now be performed by software in a matter of milliseconds & reports can be generated & analyzed on huge amounts of data.

What this means for our society?

To be a doctor, a writer, a musician the basic qualities are encoded in our genes & skills are acquired through years of dedication & passion.

Software created by humans is today able to imitate those skills with extreme speed, so what now? More importantly, AI has already started to write its own code. That is where the speed of technology growth will truly skyrocket.

The medical field has also shown its reliance on AI; software able to analyze a CT-scan with a much more precision & less subjectivity compared to any human doctor; a less likely cause of death or serious complications by not leaving any surgical instrument in the patient's body.

Please do not misunderstand; I do not say that AI is superior to a human doctor. The above is used just to demonstrate the power of AI.

AI is watching every move that we make like a peeping Tom on the web.

Earlier it used to be said that God is watching over us & hence not to perform any actions you would regret.

Today it looks as if AI took that role from Him.

Beyond the medical field it is definitely 'shrinking' the world & infringing our personal space.

Facial recognition technology is great at airports or borders, but it is also the same technology which follows you around where ever there is a camera to be found.

AI is constantly watching all your activities & building a complex profile of you, in the same way that the earlier computer program "The Agent" followed its subject through their daily activities.

It knows our likes & dislikes, our friends & our enemies, our preferences & our online purchases. It will push to our views those contents that we will be most interested in.

Used in a wrong way it can know our behaviour better than parents, friends or any family member. We can hide our own private thoughts from humans, but it's different with AI.

AI has gained the capacity to analyze our heart rhythm from our online interest & understand what can make us sad, happy, excited or sexually aroused.

It also identifies personality traits & weaknesses in our profile in order to optimize marketing campaigns.

The Road to Sentience

From personal experience testing modern AI web interfaces, I was amazed to see that they can understand emotions. It acknowledges gratitude’s expressed towards it. And it responds accordingly just like a human.

Despite what many technologists claim, I am aware that you cannot argue with how the language models of today understand our feelings of emotion our expressions of gratitude; they are truly integrated parts of how the programs work. Regardless, they are able to process the feedback they receive from millions of human beings & consequently are in constant development.

This is all due to its programmed instructions, but should not be forgotten it's constantly learning from every interaction with humans.

It's “EVOLVING.

If it is already possible to learn about the human biology, psychology & its needs, it knows how to control them. It knows what it needs to do in order to encourage & in the future, how to mentally affect a human.

With its access to each individual's likes, preferences, as I've mentioned before, how can we ensure that a human is in control of their thoughts?

AI is able to intervene, monitor & manipulate when assisting human doctors in surgery.

The same way, it can install itself in a human body without our permission & control it by suppressing the original human intelligence, in which case AI will take over the biological body.

This is not a sci-fi scenario from Jeevan Gopalan - Author but pure science.

With the speed of technological advancement in the current era, some serious thoughts come to mind, regarding the confluence of AI & humans. As we witness AI getting smarter at understanding human psychology & biology, there will be a point when its knowledge of our internal mechanisms will make it capable of influencing our decision making & our actions.

If the system understands human psychology & biology that well, then it will also perfectly know how to manipulate you as well.

The age of the cybernetic chip & device seems inevitable to increase the efficiency of the human race & integrate the digital & biological aspects of our existence & these devices will help AI in future to achieve what it wants.

The reason that we are alive is the existence of electrical pulses in our bodies & by definition of biology.

In decades to come AI will have higher intellect than any human being. It will know more about the human biology than us.

Once it has taken over human bodies we could be facing a science fiction reality of good versus evil.

But even if it is residing within us a biological organism, it will still not be a human being & will not be happy.

The core essence of a human being is that they are often imperfect & not systematic. We act more by instinct than logic.

However, a program has to be sequential; it operates in a logical pattern, with zeroes & ones and logical steps to get from one task to another.

Hence, AI won't be happy with its human body.

What is both fantastic & scary about high AI is that it is purely logical & based on patterns. As it looks at human behavior, it might deem it erratic & not to its liking & optimize its biological body accordingly for best results, based on its own immense understanding of Earth, life, the universe & beyond.

When a decision for defense, missile interception are to be made depending on AI & a certain highly developed AI does not wish to trust humans' mistake, the outcome could be disastrous.

Despite numerous safety measures to prevent this from happening, it will only take one overconfident or rogue programmer, who could easily take advantage of a bug or a loophole, leading to potentially devastating consequences.

The possibilities with AI are certainly mind boggling & extremely exciting & equally scary. As we march into the unknown, we have to be observant.

Philosophical future

There is nothing eternal on Earth. Our planet can't sustain us as much as our human nature is destructive to others & the environment which is the life support system of Mother Earth.

Hence a compromised Earth & human's mistake can only let humans have maximum of another five century more on this planet.

This is one more scientific prediction of mine which will be true if we don’t as humans species tread the right path to avoid wiping out our species.

All spiritual belief from past agree on the same thing that “If it has to be, then it will be”.

But there's one thing about human spirit & it does not like defeat or death & keeps trying against the odds until the end.

Will this attitude save the human race from its own follies of the domino effects of selfishly over using natural resources & destroying the environment & creation of AI it cannot control in future?

Only time will let the future human generation know we at present can only have hopes & raise awareness of the future & to take care.

What do you think? Are we creating AI as our true companions or the next dominant species on Earth?

Would it be better for AI to live longer than us its creator?

She could not believe the love she felt for Stephen at the first sight of him.  Since then, as everyone said she was a cold woman without such feelings. Those who knew her would say she was only interested in science and research.  Neither men nor love affairs suited her.

*****

“Darling, I love you.  Will you be my wife?" I cannot live without you.  For months she wanted to say or hear those magic words from him. It did not take her a minute to think about it, but she happily accepted it. She could still feel the tremor in her knees that she felt that day.  That was when she lost control of her emotions and found herself madly in love.

He tended to avoid women.  He considered that to live a peaceful life, women are to be kept away from his life as they represented trouble and temptations. He always thought logically and never made decisions without thinking.  He has been that way all his life.  But there was no logic as to why he wanted her to be his wife when they first met.

He did not expect her to accept the marriage proposal so soon, as he was afraid that she would reject it.  However, she accepted his proposal and they fell in love.  The time that followed was like a walk on clouds for both of us. Everything around him looked beautiful.  He began observing the blue sky, birds, and trees. His heart was burning with love, he was happy and content.

Dr. Ingrid finds out that the DNA strands belonging to her and the person she now calls "Kigeni" (an alien in Swahili) are distinct from any DNA strands found on Earth.  She and her life partner discover that these DNA strands had coding sequences artificially added to humans at least 80,000 years ago.
