The Scientific Universe of Sanatana Dharma: Why Ancient Hindu Cosmology Merges with Modern Physics

For centuries global theology has been dividing the Creator & the Universe.

Most of us have been brought up to view God as an external entity residing in an invisible, remote Heaven, overseeing a corrupted planet & the Universe with flaws created by him & punishing through divine reward & retribution.

But what if the spiritual paradigm where the Creator & Universe are not separated, but is instead synonymous?

Seven thousand years ago, eons before the first laboratory or the telescope, the ancient Indian Rishis deduced a cosmology so scientifically accurate it still astounds present-day scientists.

How did they achieve this? Perhaps they possessed extraordinarily advanced scientific intelligence, or as I hinted at in my novel MARGA- The Alien Code, perhaps they had access to a deeper, perhaps even cosmic, intelligence.

From a scientific perspective, Hinduism isn't mythology (though some seem to try desperately to imagine it is); it's a complex decoding of the Universe itself.

Moving Beyond Idols to Language of Energy

Hinduism's seemingly confusing & elaborate array of multi-armed deities can initially seem bewildering. However, the ancient sages had perfect knowledge of the human psyche.

It is difficult to form an emotional bond with invisible waves of energy, like our loved ones.

For the Commoner:

The deities were given anthropomorphic forms, colour & stone idols so that humans had an anchor to venerate & follow their teachings regarding virtue.

For the Sages (Rishis):

Those un-attached by earthly concerns & concerns about material forms needed no idols to worship; they would meditate in forests & mountains & tune into the formless energy that permeated the Universe.

This spiritual system extended beyond divinity itself to explain accurate observations of astronomy, physics, mathematics, metallurgy, biology & even surgery.

Their accuracy at predicting astronomical events as complex as the speed of light was phenomenal; they were able to engineer monuments that precisely targeted a divine forehead at specific times of cosmic significance.

The Cosmic Trinity: Astrophysics & Thermodynamics.

Hinduism explains the Universe as an eternal cycle of expansion, maintenance & dissolution composed of five basic energies & numerous subdivisions. These principles perfectly correlate with the Cosmic Trinity, also known as the Trimurti:

6 Cyclic stages of the Universe

The inactive Cosmic Ocean (Singularity)

Lord Brahma-Creation / Cosmic Inflation (Energy to Matter)

Lord Vishnu-Maintenance / Gravitational Order & Evolution

Lord Shiva-Destruction / Entropy (Mahapralaya)

The Cycle Resets.

Lord Brahma: Big Bang & Genetic Code

Lord Brahma is the outward-driving active force that inflates the cosmos.

The Cosmic Egg:

According to Hinduism, Brahma emerged from a Golden Egg (Hiranyagarbha) or a Lotus emanating from Lord Vishnu's navel. In astrophysics, this perfectly depicts cosmic inflation; the expansion of the Universe from a singular point (Big Bang singularity).

Information Theory:

In Hinduism, Brahma is depicted with four heads pointing in the cardinal directions, representing cosmic awareness.

In biology, this accurately describes the genetic code of the Universe as DNA is composed of four nucleotides: Adenine, Thymine, and Cytosine & Guanine which forms all known life.

Lord Vishnu: Gravity & Evolution

Lord Vishnu is the active principle that holds the Cosmos in order & counters any force of chaos.

Thermodynamics & Gravity:

Just as the universe naturally tends towards entropy (disorder), Vishnu ensures balance through universal governing forces such as gravity & the physical laws that govern living organisms & ecosystems.

The Dashavatar (Evolutionary Theory):

The ten avatars of Lord Vishnu closely relate to the evolution of life:

1. Matsya (Fish)-Aquatic life is born.

2. Kurma (Tortoise)-Amphibians evolve.

3. Varaha (Boar)-Terrestrial creatures come into being.

4. Narasimha (Man-Lion)-Man evolves.

5. Vamana (Dwarf)-Early human-like beings appear.

6. Early human forms.

7. Fully-evolved human consciousness develops.

Quantum Field Theory:

Lord Vishnu represents a state that ‘pervades’ all existence. In its dormant form on the cosmic ocean reclined on the serpent Ananta, it depicts the all-pervading quantum field, which is the source of all that emerges as the universe expands.

Lord Shiva: The necessity of Destruction.

Lord Shiva is misunderstood to be evil as he destroys. He actually represents a cyclical process that transforms the Universe & regenerates it by generating entropy.

Conservation of Energy:

Matter cannot be created or destroyed, it is simply transmuted. Just as Lord Shiva's existence as a force is crucial for breaking down obsolete elements so new ones can form, matter continuously disintegrates into simpler components that later assemble to form new substances.

Cellular Biology (Apoptosis):

Our own bodies depend on apoptosis or programmed cell death, which destroys old cells to make way for healthy new life. In the Universe, Shiva carries out this essential process on a cosmic scale.

The Cosmological Damru:

Lord Shiva's hourglass-shaped drum perfectly represents the oscillating cyclical nature of the cosmos-constantly expanding & contracting within the larger rhythm, analogous to the "Big Bounce" model theorized by modern scientists.

The 14 Lokas: Dimensions of Consciousness.

While modern quantum mechanics is still debating the existence of higher dimensions, ancient Hindu cosmology was already established with 14 Lokas (Realms), arranged vertically as dimensions of human consciousness with the Earth being smack bang in the middle.

The 7 Higher Realms (Urdhva Lokas):

These are not earthly planets, but rather state dimensions that correspond to spiritual & higher consciousness.

Bhur Loka:

The material world we currently inhabit.

BhuvarLoka:

The celestial, atmospheric layer of existence; energy domain.

Svar (Swarga) Loka:

The home of the Devas (divine beings). It is believed these are technologically & spiritually advanced life forms.

SatyaLoka:

The highest state of existence-pure universal consciousness.

The 7 Lower Realms (Adho Lokas / Patala):

Inhabited by Asuras & Nagas (demigods), these 'underworld' realms represent psychological states of arrogance, ignorance & materialism; a universe of beings with every physical commodity, yet residing in spiritual poverty.

The realization of this fact is that these are not physical locations, but dimensions of the human mind & spiritual progress involves climbing up through the ranks of awareness, from the lower levels of material consciousness (Patala) up to the divine principles of truth & purity (Satya Loka).

The Divine Consorts: Psychology, wealth & Shakti

The divine feminine principle complements the masculine & serves to provide a complete picture of scientific understanding.

Devi Lakshmi: The flowing dynamics of abundance.

Goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu, represents the wealth that comprises health, bravery, & wisdom.

The Churning of the Ocean (Samudra Manthan):

This tells the story of Lakshmi’s birth & shows how abundance is not a matter of mere luck, but the culmination of tremendous, harmonized & disciplined effort by both the gods & the demons (within us).

The Iconography:

Her lotus, which rises pristine above polluted waters, symbolizes the triumph over greed & materialism. Her constant showers of golden coins highlight how prosperity should flow freely through the society instead of being stagnant.

Devi Parvati: The Fundamental kinetic energy (Shakti)

The consciousness cannot operate without energy. This is the concept in Hindu metaphysics.

Quantum interaction:

The universe operates in two primary states, that of potential & action.

Lord Shiva embodies static, unmanifest consciousness (Purusha) while Devi Parvati represents active kinetic energy (Prakriti). Without the active nature of Prakriti, Shiva (Purusha) remains immobile. Without the potential of Shiva (Purusha), Prakriti is merely random motion. They both form a cosmic seed; together in this concept, they are the half-man half-woman Ardhanarishvara.

The Three Gunas:

Devi Parvati manages nature's sub-atomic characteristics via Sattva (equilibrium), Rajas (action) & Tamas (inactivity).

Heaven & Hell exist here on Earth:

Ancient Indian teachings inform us that there is no fleshy heaven to enjoy without any physical bodies & no boiling hell without physical bodies to suffer for incorporeal beings.

Heaven and Hell are conditions born out of here on earth.

The universe runs on the unswerving law of Karma, the energy echo that always returns to the tosser.

By immortalising the fundamental principles of this energetic ecosystem via amazing superhuman archetypes, the ancient Rishis gifted the inhabitants of the earth a life lesson on the importance of upright behaviour, caring for Mother Nature & remaining harmonious with the cosmos.

Our ancestors & their spiritual insights warrant much scientific praise because our founders were aware not just of God but of the Universe.

“Darling, I love you.  Will you be my wife?" I cannot live without you.  For months she wanted to say or hear those magic words from him. It did not take her a minute to think about it, but she happily accepted it. She could still feel the tremor in her knees that she felt that day.  That was when she lost control of her emotions and found herself madly in love.

He tended to avoid women.  He considered that to live a peaceful life, women are to be kept away from his life as they represented trouble and temptations. He always thought logically and never made decisions without thinking.  He has been that way all his life.  But there was no logic as to why he wanted her to be his wife when they first met.

He did not expect her to accept the marriage proposal so soon, as he was afraid that she would reject it.  However, she accepted his proposal and they fell in love.  The time that followed was like a walk on clouds for both of us. Everything around him looked beautiful.  He began observing the blue sky, birds, and trees. His heart was burning with love, he was happy and content.
