Faith, Vices & Mental Resilience
Whether
God can be proven by science or not, it ultimately doesn't matter.
What matters is the fact that the notion
of a higher power gives comfort to the psyche & will be a moral anchor
whether life is flourishing or faltering; whether financially, physically or
emotionally.
From a biological perspective, humanity
has many limitations similar to most species; however it is our capacity to
think very deeply & with complete self-awareness which often works against
us. Though capable of being prompted towards great good, humans can easily fall
into periods of crippling mental distress where we are not aligned with our own
thoughts & actions.
In periods of great triumph, humans can
too easily be lured into thinking they are invincible & this often leads to
careless actions that burn the necessary bridges to keep them afloat in their
new circumstances. On the other hand, periods of great adversity can cause many
to view their struggle as a permanent wall they can't break down & this is
also often increased by the truth of how quickly many friendships end when one
hits rock bottom.
In these periods of despair, many
lacking a psychic support system are drawn towards alcohol, substances or any
other vices, solely to numb their inner anguish.
Sadly, others can't find their way out
at all &ultimately give up on
life, an outcome driven by a psychological experience unique to humans, as
animals are not afforded with our analytical (& often illogical) perception
of life & death.
This is
where a spiritual base becomes absolutely essential. Those who were raised with
spiritual ideals develop strong personalities & will have a strong support
system to get through good times & bad with both humbleness &grace,
never being truly overwhelmed by life.
Even without proof of the divine, daily
religious practices are incredibly beneficial psychologically & physically.
Thirty
minutes a day lit lamp before a deity, sitting cross-legged & chanting
mantras can greatly improve circulation to the brain, steady pulse rate &
calm the nervous system.
The benefit of visiting the temple at
least weekly for those who appreciate it can also break the monotony &
boost spiritual momentum.
Those who claim they are too busy for
daily practice may find a good replacement in Yoga. Originating from the time
of Rishis, millennia before most religions were formalized; Yoga &
Pranayama (breathwork) are known worldwide to provide great physical, emotional
& mental stability. Even as little as a 15-minute morning ritual of warming
up for 5 minutes, meditating (Pranayama) for ten minutes & lying on your
back to relax your entire body (Savasana) will relieve nerve pressure, lower blood pressure & make you feel refreshed
& prepared to face any mental hardships with dignity rather than chemical
coping methods or self-destruction.
The benefit of this practice is shown
through comparative society. In much of the western world, where this
traditional religious &cultural foundation has decayed, the rates of
addiction, suicide, divorce, single parenthood & elderly person social
isolation have soared, while the seven-thousand-year-old eastern religious
& cultural practices have proven to create much more spiritually &mentally
stable societies.

He
tended to avoid women. He considered that to live a peaceful life, women
are to be kept away from his life as they represented trouble and temptations.
He always thought logically and never made decisions without thinking. He
has been that way all his life. But there was no logic as to why he
wanted her to be his wife when they first met.
*****
He
did not expect her to accept the marriage proposal so soon, as he was afraid
that she would reject it. However, she accepted his proposal and they
fell in love. The time that followed was like a walk on clouds for both

blue sky, birds, and trees. His heart was burning with love, he was happy and
content.
