Can "Karma" Have a Scientific Explanation?

In my previous blog, "Love Entanglement = Quantum Entanglement," I explored how love might travel vast distances without a visible physical connection, drawing parallels to quantum mechanics. In that piece, I also touched upon the Hindu concept of “Karma”, the belief that we must undergo numerous rebirths to resolve & untangle our accumulated deeds.

But how exactly can “Karma” are carried from one lifetime to the next? Is there a way to explain this through the lens of modern science?

Let’s explore a possibility.

We Are Condensed Energy

Fundamentally, all living beings are composed of atoms & energy. At the subatomic level, the matter making up our bodies consists of particles (like quarks & electrons) that are essentially excitations of quantum fields. While we appear to be solid, biological matter, we are structurally composed of energetic fields, constantly consuming, converting & emitting energy to sustain life.

Consider this: the protons & neutrons that give our bodies mass are made of quarks. The immense kinetic & binding energy holding these quarks together actually accounts for about 99% of our mass. In a very literal physical sense our bodies are crystallized, condensed energy.

The Law of Conservation

When we die, our atoms & energy do not vanish; they are recycled, strictly adhering to the laws of conservation of mass & energy. Complex organic molecules break down. Through decomposition or cremation, atoms of carbon, nitrogen & oxygen return to the environment, eventually integrating into new life forms, the atmosphere or the soil.

Atoms are incredibly resilient; they do not "die." The very same atoms that once comprised a human body can later become part of another organism, a plant, or a future individual. During cremation, organic molecules are converted into gases & released into the atmosphere, while bone minerals (like calcium & phosphorus) remain as ash. The chemical energy stored within us is released as heat & light, radiating outward into the universe.

While ordinary chemical processes merely rearrange these atoms into new molecules, physics tells us that matter can be converted directly into energy through processes like annihilation. The fundamental building blocks of who we were remain in the cosmic loop.

The Soul as an Undiscovered Field

Of course, science has yet to prove the existence of the “Soul” but it has not been able to disprove it either.

It is entirely possible that the soul is a form of energy that science has not yet identified or for which we have not yet invented the proper measuring instruments. If this energy is indestructible, it could theoretically interface with biological life at the moment of conception in the womb.

Think of it this way: if we can seamlessly transmit massive amounts of data to a smart phone or laptop without any physical wires, why couldn't a soul encode & carry the data of our “Karma”?

If someone had proposed the existence of invisible radio waves capable of transmitting voices across the globe before the invention of the radio, people would have laughed & dismissed it as pure science fiction. We simply lacked the tools to detect them.

Conclusion

Science shows us that nothing we are is ever truly lost; our energy & matter are continuously recycled into the universe. If the soul functions as a subtle, yet-undiscovered energy field, it could theoretically carry the "data" of our “Karma” across lifetimes. Perhaps the cycle of rebirth continues until this karmic data is fully resolved, allowing the soul to settle into a state of pure, undisturbed energy & finally merging back into the universe & the source that created it.
